We’re happy to announce that Joel B. Shields Dentistry for Children and Teens is Smile Savvy’s practice of the month! Their team excels on engaging their local community with active social media accounts and thrives by having fun on social media. We caught up with Melanie Tolbert at their office to discuss their social media prowess, and how it has improved their dental practice.
Focus on Social Media
How does your practice view social media?
Melanie: Social media is very important for our practice, because most parents are on sites like Facebook and Instagram. We use it as a valuable source for gaining new patients and retaining exiting families. Social media has become the single most important tool in marketing our practice online, because it keeps us fresh and in the minds of our patients and their families.
Improve Patient Relations
Has social media improved patient relations?
Melanie: Our current patients love to view our monthly giveaways and events on social media. It gives them the opportunity to see us and be active with our office during the time between their six-month preventive care visits. We are definitely more visible to our patients and community.
Get more Active on Facebook
How often do you post on social media?
Melanie: We try to post at least two to three times a week and share our weekly blog post onto our practice’s Facebook page. This sends more traffic back to our website, which in turn improves our SEO when people are searching for us. We try to post fun items as well as informative and educational information.
Use Fun Contests
Does your dental practice use social media for contests and promotions?
Melanie: We had a summer giveaway to win an iPad Mini, and it was a very popular contest. We also had a recent contest where the prize was a mini photo session with a local photographer – and that was a BIG hit. Since we’re a pediatric office, parents always share pictures of their children. We definitely plan to do it again in the future! Promoting contests on social media is very valuable it keeps us out there and let’s people see that we are fun and up to date with the times.
Try Fun-Themed Days at the Dental Office
Do you have a favorite social media post that your dental practice has shared?
Melanie: We really like the office dress-up days, and have fun sharing them on social media.
